At an air temperature of minus 10-15 degrees, you can warm up the car engine for a maximum of 3 minutes. In this respect reports Sputnik radio refers to Maxim Kadakov, automobile expert, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Behind the Wheel”.
“If it is minus 10-15 degrees outside, I start the engine and wait two or three minutes until the coolant temperature needle moves. This means that the coolant is getting hot and the oil is getting more or less hot. Then I start moving at low speeds, that is, with very smooth acceleration. We are moving calmly, slowly,” Kadakov said.
According to the expert, in severe frosts, for example at minus 35 degrees, it is worth starting and warming up the car the night before. In this case, it is easier to start an engine that has not cooled completely in the morning.
Drivers are still trying to de-ice their cars to use risky and sometimes dangerous methods. Some drivers use a hair dryer to heat the intake manifold. The fact is that in modern cars it is not taken into account that they are mostly plastic and easy to melt. Moreover, melting may occur inside, which will disrupt the operation of the system.
One of the favorite remedies in cold weather is boiling water. Some pour it onto the windshield, some pour it into the manifold. It may become deformed due to temperature changes or the cylinder head may become loose. The aluminum manifold can often crack. An electric heat gun is also often used. Decorative elements, anthers and cables may melt if used incorrectly.
