Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco must be held accountable. With such a proposal, the “Public Consumer Initiative” (OPI) turned to the Ministry of the Interior and the public prosecutor’s office. At the same time, according to the OPI, the state must take over the shares of companies.
“Following the sanctions policy of foreign states, the largest Western automakers have announced an indefinite cessation of activities in Russia. Among them are the owners of brands such as Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco, among which previously (before the imposition of sanctions) the most popular trucks in the transport and logistics sector, including truck tractors, were produced on the Russian market, ”Izvestia quotes” OPI head Oleg Pavlov.
The public figure also points out that concerns have stopped servicing the cars sold, endangering people’s safety. In addition, the prices of spare parts and cars have risen due to the cessation of supplies, forcing carriers to raise prices or stop transportation.
“As freight forwarders fulfill the function of supplying raw materials as well as equipment and manufactured products to the economy, an increase in tariffs inevitably leads to an increase in the cost and retail price of goods. Thus, one of the factors of consumer inflation is formed, and at the same time a decrease in the level of well-being of Russian citizens,” says Oleg Pavlov.
The OPI has previously sued General engines MercedesBenz Volkswagen and Toyota engineaccusing car companies of violating the rights of Russian consumers.
