The car must always be technically in order – that is not even discussed. But sometimes critical situations happen in life, where you don’t care about anything – just to get there. To the hospital from the lost outback, for example. Even when it comes to a partially broken car, a human life is more important.
Obviously, moving without engine oil is absolutely impossible. Driving without coolant is also impossible – you will not drive a mile, but you will ruin the engine.
But with some disruptions, it is still possible to get to your destination on your own.
Engine: mechanics and electrics
With almost all mechanical failures outside the engine, driving is dangerous. The exception is the power unit struts that begin to collapse, which are always a “non-flying” design. Metal can rumble on metal, but the bike won’t fall on the road – although its displacement sometimes allows it to pop a CV-joint, for example.
We don’t recommend experimenting with travel if: the drive belt or in addition the timing belt is overgrown with fraying A break in the first will, as a rule, deprive the engine of cooling and charging the battery, and the second will lead to engine failure due to the valves hitting the pistons. For the same reason it is dangerous to move with the bearings of the generator, coolant pump, air conditioning compressor, power steering that begin to collapse and make noise.

Very a sudden knock in the engine is dangerous. After all, only parts that work with the wrong, large, deviating clearance can start knocking. These could be problems with crankshaft bearings, clearances in the piston group or a malfunction of the valve drive.
Modern engine management systems are very reliable – they allow you to move even if some elements fail. The Check Engine signaling device reports the failure of sensors and actuators. Critical signals in the instrument panel related to the engine are the ignition of the oil pressure warning light and a signal device, or a pointer indicating an excessively high engine temperature. They may indicate insufficient engine oil or coolant levels.
You can’t drive without oil, you should at least add an old KAMAZ bought from the driver. And in the cooling system in the warm season you can add water.
Transfer
When it stops turning off clutch, then you can get to the mechanics by putting the car into first gear with the engine off and starting it with the starter. Once you’ve picked up the engine speed and rpm, you can try to get there and gradually reach higher gears. And if the clutch started to slip, you have to drive slowly, in lower gears and almost without pressing the accelerator pedal. Before climbing, it is desirable to accelerate, if possible.
We do not recommend driving with a squeak in the gearbox. The axles can jam at any time and this will cause the drive wheels to lock, which is dangerous at speed.
automatic box when shifting, it may start to vibrate because of the old working fluid and friction wear that has started. So you don’t have to drive long, but you can even drive from the sea to the house on the highway. But metallic strange noises in the box are dangerous – they force you to stop the engine.
Variable Speed Drive, which began to vibrate upon acceleration, allows you to reach the target. But remember: the less wear products of the slip tire in the working fluid, the easier and cheaper the later repair. good and rattle and a strong metal clatter – a reason to call a tow truck.
For robotic gearboxes from the beginning of clutch slippage (or clutches, if there are two), a period of time usually elapses sufficient for returning even from a long journey.
Wheel drive joints, who began to make noise, there is no point in regretting. This will allow you to reach your destination, but you should not abuse the speed: there is a chance that the hinge will jam along the way.

In critical situations – and only in them! – with many malfunctions, the car can drive “by I can not”. But some of them are really dangerous and that’s why it’s better to use a tow truck.
