The economic situation with cars and chicken eggs is similar in Russia due to increased demand and a sharp increase in prices. In this respect said Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Behind the Wheel” on the Telegram channel.
As Kadakov noted, in December this year eggs became one of the most expensive products due to a sharp increase in demand; Prices increased by 10-20% in 46 regions of Russia. The authorities decided to zero out customs duties on the supply of eggs from friendly countries in order to saturate the market and reduce prices. The auto expert wrote that this decision will not have a positive impact on domestic poultry farms, but prices may fall in 2024 if the market is saturated.
“Although there are doubts that if prices fall, it will be very little. Chicken meat is becoming more expensive for quite objective reasons: the weakening of the ruble exchange rate and the resulting increase in the price of imported production components (there are imported components in egg production, just like in car production!), bird flu epidemics, rising labor prices (including guest workers ) and others,” he wrote.
In the automobile market throughout the year, demand greatly exceeded supply, prices also increased sharply, and the shortage of new cars reached 1.7 million units in two years. The solution to the problem may be the same as eggs; Kadakov is sure that customs duties on new and used cars should be temporarily reset or reduced. But the authorities did not reset taxes and sharply increased the recycling fee. Therefore, prices can only fall if demand decreases.
“We can only expect that the volume of car production in Russia will increase, favoring dealers and overstocking their warehouses. The overstocking process has already begun. But here it is like with eggs: if there are no objective reasons to reduce prices (customs duties, taxes, import components), then you can only count on discounts, gifts and other concessions, but not on rewritten and eye-pleasing price lists for cars,” he said. stated the auto expert.
