After the change in the socio-economic situation in February 2022, most car owners have at least thought about whether it is time to start saving, and if so, on what?
Savings on petrol and oil
A new study by NAFI and the “Danger-Free Movement” expertise center has shown that the majority of motorists (65%) will not save on gasoline and buy fuel at little-known and non-network stations, even in the event of a difficult financial situation.
Most often, people over 35 years old (68%), women (66% vs. 61% men), residents of the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasus Federal District (21%) and qualified specialists (71%) answered in this way.
35% are willing to use the services of a private non-network station if they are in a hurry or see that petrol is much cheaper there, 14% are already customers of such stations.
Among those who already refuel at non-network stations are mainly drivers aged 18 to 24 (30%), people with the qualifications of workers (19%) and service personnel (21%).
71% of drivers are not ready to save on car oils. Here the highest percentage of those living in the Northwestern Federal District and the Volga Federal District (81% each) and among drivers aged 45 to 54 (76%).
29% are already ready to switch to unknown brands of oils to save money. 20% are likely to buy a cheaper product, even an unknown brand, at the next oil change, and 9% have already poured oil from an unknown manufacturer into their car.
Drivers aged 25 to 34 (14%) and unemployed Russians (15%) are more likely to save on oil.
Savings on repairs and maintenance
74% are already ready or transferring car service from an authorized dealer to a cheaper car service. Of these, there are more male than female drivers (54% versus 35%).
61% of car owners are willing to save on spare parts. Mostly, these are residents of the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasus Federal District (32%), drivers aged 35 to 44 (30%), men (27% versus 17% among women).
The survey was conducted in May 2022 and included about 1,000 people from 53 regions of Russia who hold a driver’s license and drive a car.
