At the Top Marques event in Monaco, BMW Motorrad has unveiled a new custom chopper. It was created in collaboration with Radikal Chopper and designer Andrea Radaelli.
The R 18 Magnifica combines mahogany, brass and aluminum. It also has a modified frame and cast aluminum wheels.
Radaelli wanted to recreate a classic BMW motorcycle from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. In his opinion, motorcycles from the era when BMW produced the classic R 37 have “an incredible charm that many modern motorcycles cannot convey even today.”
Despite the stunning old-school look, the chassis is almost completely stock. That is, on the road it feels like a modern motorcycle. But the brake discs and calipers are completely unique, made especially for this bike.
In doing so, the bicycle lost about 100 kg in weight. This is almost a third of its mass and now the helicopter weighs only 250 kg.
This is not the first time Andrea Radaelli, Radikal Chopper and BMW Motorrad have teamed up. In 2020, they built a helicopter called Ad Maiora, which received an MBE award at the Motor Bike Expo for being the most modified motorcycle.
They turned a motorcycle into a work of art with a reference to the classic BMW motorcycles from the beginning of the last century.
