Diesel fuel in cars freezes faster than gasoline in low temperatures. Speaking to socialbites.ca, auto expert Mikhail Kolodochkin from Za Rulem magazine said that to combat its thickening, you can only use additives such as anti-gel.
“In cold weather, diesel fuel freezes and becomes stagnant and creamy. The only additives I can praise are all kinds of anti-gels. They prevent the fuel from freezing. If you add antigel to the fuel first, the freezing temperature will drop by approximately 5°C, making it easier to start the engine. I can’t say anything good about all the other additives,” Kolodochkin said.
The expert pointed out that gasoline with the highest octane number will not make it easier to start the engine in cold weather. In other words, if a driver often uses AI-92 gasoline, then it will not be easier to start a car filled with AI-95 in winter, the interlocutor noted.
