The first CDs were released in 1982. Their Billy Joel album sales started in Japan. This technology reached the USSR only towards the end of the 90s. CD recorders gradually began to replace cassette recorders, but accessories for disk storage were not yet available. No “Aliexpress”, where all this is now easy to order, did not exist then.
Many car owners have come up with nothing better than storing discs under the windshield seal. Soon the “magic” property of these glitters was discovered.
Radar protection
Then traffic cops used hand-held radars. There are no photos attached to the speed measurement. Which vehicle the inspector aimed his radar at was left to the conscience of the inspector. It was almost impossible to challenge the fine.
And so rumors started to circulate among car owners that CDs could serve as a good anti-radar. The disk is reportedly interfering with the operation of the radar in some way, reflecting its “beam”. Tech-savvy drivers familiar with how radar works understand that this is a myth. In order to measure the speed of the car, the signal sent by the radar must be reflected by the car. The time between the transmitted and reflected signal is used to calculate the speed of the object.
There were no fewer fines. Despite this, CDs have not completely disappeared from car windows. So what’s going on?
What is the use of a CD on the windshield?
The practicality of the driver and the lack of normal places to store CDs in the cars of those years played a decisive role. Over time, the discs remained in truck drivers’ cabs. On the one hand, bright circles serve as decoration, and on the other, discs suspended in a row are an excellent visor against the sun.
CDs have no other super features.
