May added new colors to the picture of the Russian car market, which on the whole is quite dramatic, but so far without fatal losses. Topping the Top 25 bestseller list compiled by the Association of European Businesses (AEB), Renault models (except the extremely tenacious Duster) expected to leave, their related XRAY lost its footing, Polo and Rapid lost their former pace – and Kia models that remained in Russia strengthened their position.
The first few positions are still unchanged – Granta, Vesta, Rio, Creta, Niva, Solaris. Also in the top 10 of May were Largus, Duster, Sportage and Seltos. But right outside the Top 10, big changes are happening: Geely Coolray was ranked 11th in sales last spring! In May, the Chinese urban crossover was bought by 473 people.

In addition, in May, with a result of 907 cars sold, the Geely brand itself came in seventh place among the car brands represented in the Russian Federation. And immediately after him – another Chinese manufacturer – Haval, 892 cars were sold. In addition, 425 of them are the compact Jolion cross, which is not far behind the Geely Coolray – between them there is only the Rapid which has lost its former grandeur.
By the way, if Culray’s rise seems like a “one time action” for the time being, then Jolion’s success is already quite natural: if we take the sales results from January to May, Geely Coolray is not in the Top 25 list, but Jolyon keeps confidently secured the 18th position with a result of 4 404 cars sold. It outperforms models such as Mitsubishi Outlander, Kia Sportage, Renault Sandero, Lada XRAY, Renault Kaptur, Renault Arkana and Kia Cerato.
- Interestingly, two Chinese crossovers also entered the Top 25 bestsellers two months earlier, only the Haval Jolion company consisted of the more status Geely Tugella.
