Kia has improved the seat design of its Kia Carnival minivan following a failed crash test by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In this respect reports IIHS.
The relevant update appeared in the 2024 model year minivan. Previously, during a crash test, the second-row seat became dislodged, slid sideways, and fell backwards with the dummy attached to it. Such a malfunction poses an obvious danger in the event of an actual accident.
More durable seat guides have been installed since August 2023, but in repeated tests the minivan of the Korean brand received low scores due to the high risk of injury to the driver’s pelvis and the rear passenger’s chest.
The updated side crash test uses a heavier moving barrier; It weighs 1905 kg and travels at 59.5 km/h.
