Are there spare parts?

In Russia, the Datsun dealer network has been discontinued. A network of Nissan dealers is involved in the maintenance and sale of spare parts.

The scheme really works – I checked it repeatedly. But often the necessary parts were not available. I didn’t want to wait a week or two – online stores helped. There is no acute shortage of spare parts yet, but sometimes we had to buy replacements from China.

Does it not brake on a descent?

With a run of 82 thousand km, a metal rattle appeared during braking, and periodically the left rear wheel began to wedge. Diagnostics in the “Behind the Wheel” technical center showed that the left rear brake cylinder was leaking, the right one was acidic, the brake pads were 90% worn and the brake drums were worn in the form of deep grooves. All parts are for replacement. And along with them the handbrake cables, on which they found dangerous damage to the braid.

Officials for work announced the price of 17 thousand rubles, and another 7 thousand – for spare parts. “On the side” recovered half the price.

The front brake discs and pads also had to be replaced due to running out. At first I wanted to sharpen the discs, but for the groove of one they asked for 1000 rubles. A set of discs and pads with replacement will cost less than 5,000 rubles. The prices are comparable, and the wheels are new.

What’s broken?

The cause of the creaking when turning the steering wheel was discovered when the engine guard was removed. It is not installed on its brackets, but on the lever mounts. The mounting bolt cracked, which led to the weakening of the left arm. Put on a new bolt – crunch gone.

On a 81,500km run I replaced the tires – the old ones were worn down to the wear limit indicators. The tire selection center made a gift in the form of free installation and wheel balancing, but still gave 16 thousand rubles for four tires.

On a 85,300 km ride, the red “oiler” on the instrument panel lit up. Checked the level – ok. When restarting, the indicator went off, but reappeared after 40 km and then disappeared again. I decided to check if the sensors or wiring are mopping up. Without a lift or pit you cannot reach the oil level sensor. But the oil pressure sensor is easy to change from above. I bought a sensor for 300 rubles, a key for 21 for 450 rubles, changed it in five minutes. And the red light went out.

For diagnosis, the removed sensor must be connected to a pressure gauge and the device adapter screwed in place of the sensor. We start the engine: the pressure begins to rise, and as soon as the pressure gauge reads 1.2-1.6 bar, the indicator on the instrument panel with a working sensor should go out. If the light stays on, the sensor needs to be replaced.

Is the body okay?

I often encounter the unwillingness of craftsmen to fix a seven-year-old Datsun. “We won’t even take it” or “take your crispy chips and take it to someone else” – these are far from the most offensive phrases I’ve heard. It’s all about corrosion. The car in front of our eyes gets a red camouflage on all metal parts.

If you are going to repair parts of the body, then the average price for painting one element in an unofficial center is about 8,000 rubles. In addition, rust will appear within a year, as internal sources of corrosion cannot be eliminated without removing parts. Such repairs are justified only if the car is sold.

Perhaps, as a result of Moscow reagents, rust appears. Although much more factory protection against corrosion means. On a personal Grant, used in rural conditions in a softer environment, the metal corrodes no less and the machines are the same age.

Fish are everywhere. Thresholds are blooming, through-holes are already appearing in the front fenders, nuts and bolts are turning sour so that blowtorches and threaded liquids penetrating won’t help, and military personnel “hang on the keys, like a horizontal beam” and can’t bolt the front to suspension. That’s what we’ve got for seven years in business.

Subtotal

Datsun mi-DO is not cheap at all to run. If we compare the cost of 1 km of our editorial cars, we get the following alignment: Vesta – 4.82 rubles, Largus – 4.83 rubles, Datsun mi-DO – 5.69 rubles. More expensive in our park, perhaps, the problematic Citroen C4 – 6.85 rubles.

As long as the car was under warranty, it could be safely used as everyday transport. But after 60 thousand kilometers and three or four years of use, Datsun began to actively corrode, and you look at it differently. But we still drive our “Japanese Kalina”. And we’ll see what happens next.
