Zutobi (an international online driving education platform) has figured out which models have been the most purchased models of all time since their introduction to the market.
1. Top of the list Toyota Corollaa, 47.5 million sales worldwide. The model has been produced since 1966 and an average of almost 850,000 of these machines are sold per year.
2. In second place Ford F Series, this model has sold 40,000,000 worldwide. The F-150 pickup is the flagship, and it’s said that if you line up all the F-150s ever sold, a column of such cars will cross the equator twice. Impressively, the F Series is the second best-selling car model, despite being sold primarily in the US and Canada (unlike the Corolla, which is sold in almost every country in the world). On average, an F-150 is sold in America every 35 seconds, and more than half a million annually since 1948.
3. Close the top three VW Golf – 35,000,000 sales worldwide. This is one of the most versatile cars in the world, a mid-sized hatchback. It’s been on sale since 1974. James May, a popular motoring journalist, once said, “The Golf is the answer to everything, and it’s the only car that should really exist.” And 35 million people agreed, purchasing several generations of the model in the 48 years since its introduction.
Among other models that have exceeded the 20 million bar during their existence, one can also mention VW Passat (30 million units; sales since 1973), Honda Civic (24 million units; since 1972) and VW Beetle (23 million units; sales since 1938).
