Many of us are familiar with the engines of these machines, as well as the cars themselves. But there are many people who consider the “four” or “fifteen” to be the first car. And someone in difficult times looks at a strong example of the VAZ-2113 as a commercial vehicle. The option is good! But it is necessary to know the weaknesses of the design before buying it – Sergey Zinoviev tells about it in the latest issue of the magazine Za Rulem.
In particular, he notes that the basis of the fleet consists of cars with 8-valve engines of two generations: the basic VAZ-21114 or the “Kalino-Grant” VAZ-11183. But there are also cars with a 16-valve engine – these were produced in small series. All engines are very maintenance-friendly. The flip side of the coin: you may need regular repairs.
The main complaints about all engines in the Samara-2 family are seals, gaskets, a thermostat, a pump, an ignition coil, an ECU and sensors. In addition, the expansion tank may burst and the timing belt may break, even if it is relatively new.
The source of the motor is quite difficult to determine. In theory, this is about 150-200 thousand km, but many have overcome 300 thousand, and some have walked more than 500 thousand km. The new engine costs about the same as the oldest copies of Samara-2 itself, from 80 thousand rubles, and the corresponding box is another 20 thousand rubles. However, the transmission of these machines, as well as all other elements of the chassis, is the subject of a separate discussion.
