In recent months, the number of insurance fraud involving manipulated accidents has increased significantly.
Attackers use a variety of schemes, but the most dangerous are car setups, where unsuspecting drivers become participants.
For example, a con man drives to a flashing yellow traffic light and then suddenly changes his mind about skipping the intersection, stops abruptly and the car behind him has no time to slow down, experts at insurance company Soglasie said.
No less common scenarios for insurance fraudsters are the deliberate collision of cars and causing an accident, but with the prior consent of the parties.
The role of the “culprit” of the accident usually goes to the owner of an old domestically made car of such brands as GAZ, VAZ or ZIL, KAMAZ trucks, which have been in operation for more than 10 years. The “injured” side are mainly drivers of expensive cars: Mercedes Benz S class, BMW, Porsche, as well as right-hand drive cars (their repair is particularly expensive).
In addition, the attackers improved the fraud plan and arranged real accidents in concert. They always provide photos and videos of collisions as proof, which is why they make sure that even the oldest cars are equipped with DVRs, which they then use in their productions.
It is not difficult to distinguish a real accident from an intentional accident if you carefully analyze the recorded cases. First, participants in pseudo-accidents, as a rule, cross each other in several accidents at once (from 3 to 10) and at the same time change roles – the perpetrator / victim. Secondly, the scenarios of these accidents are of the same type. Most often – a collision with a moving car in front, leaving the adjacent area in reverse, or a collision with a stationary car in reverse.
If the avalanche growth of insurance fraud continues, it will lead to rate hikes and forced complication to the settlement of insured events, that is, it will affect law-abiding car owners, the insurance company warns.
