The Kaliningrad Avtotor plant is developing a series of electric motors as part of a used car re-motorization project (replacing fuel-powered engines with electric motors). About this at the MIMS Automobility Moscow exhibition said According to the news of Alexander Sorokin, Chairman of the Board of Avtotor Holding, the press service of the company.
According to Sorokin, Avtotor is developing a series of six electric motors with power from 23 kW to 120 kW (31-163 hp).
“Our partner state company Rosatom is also developing a 150 kW motor. We complement each other and plan cooperation. We are interested in both the motor itself and the inverters that Rosatom designed and produced in almost a year. Rosatom’s engine will be installed on the Atom electric vehicle. Our engines will be fitted to our products and will of course also be offered to other consumers.”
It is proposed to make the Kaliningrad region a pilot region for the implementation of the plan. The company stated that more than 60% of the cars in the region’s fleet are older than 10 years, making it suitable for selecting models suitable for remotorisation. Avtotor, which has now completed the construction of a facility for the production of electric vehicles in the Kaliningrad region, will enter pilot mass production at the end of 2023, and it is planned to start production of electric motors next year.
