Moscow’s deputy mayor for the development of transport and road infrastructure, Maxim Liksutov, shared his plans for the former Renault factory in an interview with the Moscow 24 TV channel.

As you know, yesterday the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, decided to transfer this venture to the city’s balance sheet and resume production of cars there under the historic Moskvich brand.

The Moskvich plant may be able to produce cars for taxis and carsharing, and soon there will be technical solutions to produce such cars there in a short time, said Moscow deputy mayor Maxim Liksutov. But the buyback of the company is out of the question.

“It is important that when we received the factory, the principle position of the mayor of the city was that we do not have a buy-back option from the Renault company, that is, this factory will always be Russian. We expect that in the first place all components will be produced in the Russian Federation. It is clear that this is not an immediate one today. But Moscow will provide this company with a firm order, together with Moscow taxi and car-sharing companies, so that the factory has a clear picture of its prospects , which cars they have to produce, who their consumer is, what are the requirements for this car.

The possibility for Renault to return to the country in the future was previously discussed by Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo.
