The 37-year-old owner of the wholesale auto parts business was about to buy real estate in Rublyovka and asked his 46-year-old brother to join the deal. The businessman gave his brother the bags containing about 250 million rubles in cash (190 million rubles and $550,000) and the keys to the Toyota Land Cruiser and instructed him to take the money to his destination.
Before the deal, the brother was supposed to stop at one address and receive another 1.5 million rubles. For security, the man called in an old friend, a 34-year-old former employee of a private security company that allows traumatic weapons.
Together they took the missing amount and stopped at a store in Lyublino on the way. While the businessman’s brother was gone, his friend got behind the wheel of a Toyota and disappeared. Police found the SUV in the Kuzminki area, but there was neither money nor hijackers in it.
