Car owners sue Renault for faulty engines

A group of Renault car owners in France have filed a class action lawsuit against the automaker because the 1.2 engines in nearly 400,000 cars consumed too much oil. In this respect informs Automotive News Europe.

According to the publication, a collective complaint will be filed in the Nanterre criminal court in connection with “aggravated deception, questionable business practices”, as well as threats to people’s lives.

“We will file complaints on behalf of at least a few dozen people on Monday,” Christoph Legevak, attorney for the venture group, quoted on the broadcast.

Owners insist the automaker should issue a recall after discovering a problem with the 1.2 engine fitted to 400,000 vehicles in Europe from 2012 to 2016. Renault acknowledged that 133,000 vehicles were potentially affected by increased oil consumption, but did not agree that it was a safety risk. Drivers will challenge this in court.
