Russian automakers are exploring the possibility of establishing car assembly plants in Ethiopia. This was expressed by the Russian Ambassador to Addis Ababa, Evgeny Terekhin, report “News”.

“The possibility of organizing a car assembly in Ethiopia is being considered,” said the diplomat.

AvtoVAZ did not confirm specific plans for Ethiopia in response to journalists’ request. At the same time, in the note that GAZ Group plans to enter the African market from 2019, it was stated that Ethiopia, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana were among the potential export countries before.

As Terekhin pointed out, more than half of Russia’s exports to Ethiopia in 2022 was wheat, and the Russian Federation also exports petroleum products and paper industry products to the African country. Among the promising areas of cooperation, the Ambassador named energy, including the supply of Russian equipment, the use of underground, increasing the supply of Russian petroleum products, the export of Russian agricultural machinery and mineral fertilizers.
