According to the prosecutor’s office, a resident of Kaunas contacted a person helping Ukrainian volunteers and promised to buy 49 truck tires and deliver them to Ukraine. The man issued an invoice with fake data and received €18,000 from a Ukrainian charity, but did not fulfill his obligation. Instead, the Lithuanian used the money to buy himself a BMW 5 Series for €13,000.
Law enforcement officers calculated the fraudster and detained him. The note said that most of the money had been returned to charity. During the investigation, it was revealed that the fraudster was involved in the theft of another BMW car worth 18.5 thousand euros, he found an ad for sale on the Internet, talked to the seller, got into someone else’s car and left. The court found the Kaunas resident guilty of theft and fraud and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.
