According to Mironov, the “people’s car” should cost about 500,000 rubles, and this cost can only be achieved with state support. The car must be equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine (100-120 hp), a manual transmission and two airbags. It should have increased ground clearance, air conditioning, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and ESC, as well as the ERA-GLONASS system.
As Mironov points out, new car sales are increasing, but their prices are not falling and they can only grow in the future. He said that if the vehicle shortage does not disappear, it is not possible for affordable models to return to the market.
“This means that the aging problem of the fleet, which is already affecting accident rates, will grow exponentially in the future. According to the party’s press service, there is only one way out – our country needs a “people’s car” that meets modern basic requirements for safety and comfort.”
