The domestic auto industry should refuse to write car brands and models in Latin. This was expressed by State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov in a conversation with a socialbites.ca correspondent. Russian marketers mistakenly assume that Latin brands are more attractive to the consumer, but the parliamentarian believes that Russian car names should be chosen for the sale of cars in the Russian market.
“This is a kind of complex that the West instilled in us – if it is Western, then quality. Actually, this is a pretty stupid model. I do not understand who needs our Lada in foreign markets, where the local name is not adapted for Europeans and, by the way, has Chinese etymology. If you want to call X-Cross Adidas, if you are such primitive creatures, then look for it, but you have to do it in Russian too. I am in favor of having Russian names everywhere,” said Milonov.
Milonov also expressed his gratitude to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin for the return of the Moskvich brand, noting that AvtoVAZ should revive the name of the Zhiguli models.
“I have a Lada Vesta in my arsenal, the first of which I bought. My friends and I call him “Zhiguli”. It was inconvenient for foreigners to pronounce this name, so Zhiguli was sold abroad under the name Lada, which was convenient for them. But “Zhiguli” – it was for us. Why did they stop using this name? We must go back!”, – called the deputy.
It was previously reported that AvtoVAZ introduced A new crossover model called the Lada X-cross 5 has been launched in St. It will be produced at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg.
