According to preliminary data, Erik Teboul was heading towards the Kamala coast, while Afanasenko was moving in the opposite direction towards Thalang. Both participants in the conflict were tested for alcohol poisoning, the tests came back negative. Other details of the accident and the condition of Russian Afanasenko were not specified.

Eric Tebuhl began his professional career as a motorcycle racer in 1980 and has won many straight line records and titles. He became world champion in the 250cc class in 1993 and in the 500cc class in 1995. In 2022, the Frenchman set a world record in the quarter-mile race and announced his retirement.
