The Volkswagen Passat sedan ceases to exist in the European market. The head of the company, Thomas Schaefer, confirmed that production of the model will be discontinued at the factory.
However, the model will continue to be produced in the station wagon body.
At the same time, the statistics for 2022 show that the Passat was the leader in terms of the number of cars sold in its segment.
The company explains the decision to stop production of the popular sedan mainly due to the unwillingness to compete with the Czech company Skoda, which produces Superb in the same segment and is preparing for the introduction of a new generation.
In addition, Volkswagen is ready to offer the Arteon liftback instead of the outgoing model.
And another factor that played against the Passat sedan is the vector for the line’s electrification. This year the so-called electric equivalent, ID. Aero, which will be launched in Europe in the second half of 2023.
