The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been proposed to resume the state car recycling program in Russia. For the delivery of an old car, it is proposed to give a discount of 150 thousand rubles when buying a car with an internal combustion engine and 200-300 thousand rubles for an electric car.
The initiative was taken by the Ruslom.com Association. Manufacturers, on the one hand, believe that such a program can increase the popularity of the Russian auto industry and increase the purchase of scrap metal, on the other hand, it will not solve the problem of supply shortages due to local production.
Supporters of the return of the state program note that with an average cost of a budget car of 700 thousand – 1.5 million rubles, a 20% discount would be a good incentive to buy a new car. Moreover, this would solve the autojunk problem.
Other experts note that with the current market deficit, stimulating demand is now far from being the most important task.
The state recycling program was active in Russia until 2019. When scrapping an old car, the discount on a new one was 50,000 rubles, on trucks and buses – up to 350,000 rubles.
