There are many ways to determine the odometer twist. But first of all, you should pay attention to the general condition of the cabin, as well as the numbers on the dashboard, advises Natalya Gorokhova, a representative of the center of expertise “Movement without danger”.
If the mechanical odometer is corrected, you will see irregularities, the numbers are not on the same line and sometimes they can even fall, the expert explains.
On the electric odometer, it is not possible to visually detect external interference – special equipment is needed.
It is also important to compare the general current condition of the car with the current odometer readings. For example, if the mileage is very small, and the accelerator, steering wheel and gear lever are already worn out, then you should definitely resort to additional mileage checks, Gorokhova recommends.
And do not forget about the study of information on special sites where cars are sold. It is possible that the car has been sold before and you can find out a lot of useful information about it.
Currently, Russian law does not specifically penalize mileage distorting. But this issue is back on the agenda: for adjusting the figures on the odometer, individuals are offered a fine of 300 thousand rubles, and companies providing such services – immediately for one million rubles.
