Toyota Motor Company plans to discontinue sales of the Camry commercial sedan in the Japanese market by the end of 2023. informs Nikkei newspaper.

“Toyota has informed Japanese dealers that it will cease production of Camrys for domestic customers at the end of the year. Production for export will continue.

It was noted that Toyota has already stopped taking orders for the Camry in Japan. Business sedans will only be sold in foreign markets. Toyota sold less than 6,000 Camrys domestically last year, citing the shortage of car semiconductors and the growing popularity of crossovers and minivans as reasons for the drop in sales.

Now the Camry is manufactured in the USA, China and at a factory in Aichi prefecture, Japan. Since the model’s debut in 1980, Toyota has sold more than 21 million Camrys (of which 1.3 million in Japan and 13 million in the United States). The tenth generation model has been produced since 2017.

At the end of 2021, Toyota Camry took 10th place in the list of the most popular models in Russia, and in 2022 the Japanese company stopped delivering cars to the Russian Federation, and St. Petersburg factory closed. At the beginning of 2022, the new Camry cost 2.1 million rubles in Russia.

Previously reportedThat its Chinese rival, Toyota Camry, will appear in Russia before the end of the summer.
