Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak commissioned Rosprirodnadzor to study the possibility of using monomethylaniline (MMA) as an additive in the production of fuel of environmental class K5, including AI-92, AI-95 and AI -98 petrols. The agency has yet to assess the impact of MMA on air, emissions and human health.
This additive was used in Russian refineries, but in 2016 the Ministry of Energy banned its use due to its negative impact on fuel, cars and the environment. In addition, during this period, Russia began the transition to the Euro-5 gasoline class.
Monomethylaniline is an additive for increasing the octane number of gasoline. Its use allows to reduce the cost of fuel production by 10-15%. If the additive is returned, it will also help the refinery to increase production of AI-95 gasoline – each ton of this additive yields an additional 100 tons of gasoline.
