The Chinese brand Geely introduced a new crossover Monjaro to the Russian market, this car is close in size to the Hyundai Santa Fe. The Chinese novelty is presented on the Russian market in three versions, its cost excluding discounts starts from 4.5 million rubles.
Originally known as the KX11 in China, the Monjaro was scheduled to appear in Russia early last year, but the sales start date has been changed due to logistics issues. Now Monjaro can only be purchased with all-wheel drive and a single 2.0 turbo engine with 238 hp. (350 Nm), engine thrust is available in a wide range – from 1.8 to 4.5 thousand rpm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed gearbox.
All versions of the Monjaro are equipped with six airbags.
however, the basic equipment lacks a set of “electronic assistants” found in the upper equipment sets. We’re talking about a system to keep the car in the lane, monitor blind spots and assist when reversing.
cold ray
The Monjaro isn’t the only innovation from the company this year, followed by a redesigned version of the Geely Coolray. The design of the updated Coolray was previously protected by a patent in Russia, and the car itself is in camouflage by the end of 2022. was filmed In tests in Russia.
After the facelift, the Coolray received a new bumper with a large mesh grille covering most of the front and a plastic wrap under the doors. In the interior of the updated car, instead of the analog instrument panel, a 10-inch screen and a 12-inch screen to control the media system appeared.
After the update, Coolray also received a 1.5 gasoline engine with a power of 181 hp. (290 Nm) relies on a 7-speed robotic transmission. The driver of the gate remained ahead.
Now the old version of the Coolray is sold on the Russian market, in the Russian specification the power unit produces only 150 forces. According to the bi-monthly results of 2023, the crossover ranks third in the list of the most popular cars in Russia, with a score of 4.2 thousand cars, according to the data of the Association of European Enterprises (AEB).
Emgrand
In Belarus, the Belgi plant has been producing a new Emgrand sedan in proportion to the Russian Lada Vesta since the end of 2022. Prices for this car in Russian currency start from 1.2 million rubles. According to some media reports, an updated version of Emgrand will also be released in Russia this year.
On the Belarusian market, Emgrand 7 is already available with a 1.5 hp 1.5 gasoline engine, it is complemented by a 5-speed “mechanics” or a variator. Independent automotive industry consultant Sergey Burgazliev considers the appearance of sedans in the Russian Geely lineup quite logical, given the extremely low supply of cars in this segment. According to him, the next innovation will be the Foreword model.
“I am sure that such a car will find a buyer in Russia if it is in the price segment of 1.4-1.9 million rubles. Additionally, Geely’s assortment includes a large Ford Mondeo and Toyota Camry Preface sedan. Objectively, we need such cars, because this segment is empty, ”Burgazliev said in an interview with socialbites.ca.
The Geely Preface sedan is built on the CMA platform, created in collaboration with Swedish Volvo. The three-volume tank is equipped with a 2.0 turbo engine with a capacity of 190 hp. and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This machine is 4785mm long, 1869mm wide and 1469mm high. In terms of dimensions, the Foreword falls into the business class popular with taxi companies.
The deliveries of the Preface to Russia have already been made by private importers, and they are asking for 2.8 million rubles.
According to Igor Morzharetto, a partner of the Avtostat analytical agency, Geely will regularly supply new models to Russia, but will do so without much fuss, as the company is closely linked to the global automotive industry and therefore fears possible sanctions.
“They’ve already introduced the Monjaro and will be releasing another crossover, the Okavango, in about a month,” Morzharetto says in an interview with socialbites.ca.
Despite the current shortage of sedans, many automakers have flocked to this segment and it may soon fill up. According to the expert, there is already a Kaiyi brand, Moskvich and Omoda, probably Exeed will also enter the same niche.
The Geely Okavango crossover, like the Emgrand sedan, has already appeared at dealers in Belarus. Some Russian dealers also offer these cars, although they are not yet listed in the official Geely model lineup in Russia. In terms of dimensions, the Okavango is comparable to the Toyota Highlander. The 177 hp 1.5-liter turbo engine is equipped with a 7-speed “robot”. There is a car in Russia from 3.8 million rubles.
