The Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, which has become the property of AVTOVAZ, may receive a new name. According to the president of the Russian car giant, Maxim Sokolov, the plant is planned to be renamed Lada St. Petersburg.

This name must be properly approved not only in the board and, let’s say, the board of directors of AVTOVAZ, but also in the government of St. Petersburg, in accordance with regional legislation. We have made such a proposal. I hope it will be positively considered in the near future,” said AVTOVAZ head.

At the beginning of February, AVTOVAZ announced the conclusion of a deal to acquire a 99% stake in the company’s share capital at a price of 1 Euro, payable in rubles at the exchange rate on the day of payment.

It is planned to produce at least three new Lada models at the St. Petersburg site – production will begin in the second half of 2023. These are more expensive models of segments C and D, including sedans and crossovers. The production of cars will be carried out in cooperation with foreign companies, presumably Chinese.
