According to preliminary information, on the morning of March 16, the motorcyclist went around the barrier and found himself on the territory of the memorial-ensemble dedicated to the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad – Mamaev Kurgan. Investigators said the man stood in a mass grave and began manipulating the gas tank with an incendiary device.

A local security guard noticed a man trying to start the motorcycle and flee, but was taken into custody. The motorcyclist was a 27-year-old local resident. Investigators are working on the scene, the motives of the citizen of Volgograd are being clarified. The man is suspected of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 30, chapter 2, art. 243 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempting to damage objects belonging to the cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation).
