In the UK, a BMW recalled for fire risk caught fire on its way to the garage. informs Daily mail.
London resident Kim Sharon, 65, said her BMW 6 Series Coupe 640d caught fire on its way to a service station about two kilometers away.
“I smelled smoke and a few seconds later flames engulfed the windshield. Just as the big fire started, I stopped and jumped out of the car. In complete shock, I stood by the side of the road and watched it burn, ”the woman said.
A few weeks ago, the German manufacturer informed Sharon that her car had been recalled for an EGR system malfunction that could have caused the fire. The woman had to go to the dealer for free spare parts. The recall affected more than 1.6 million BMWs worldwide, of which 300,000 were in the UK.
As a result of the investigation by BMW officials after the fire, experts stated that the fire did not start due to a malfunction in the EGR.
“They told me to come to the dealer to replace this part which is at risk of fire. But then, when the car caught fire on the way there, they suddenly said the cause of the fire was something else,” Sharon complained.
