Expert “Behind the wheel” Alexey Revin dismantled some car myths that appeared thanks to good and not so films.
For example, in the film “Beware of the car”, the main character Detochkin, during a pursuit of a police officer, reverses a Volga GAZ-21 into a slope of about 40 °, causing it to go out onto the road. Is this possible?
Even in the film itself, a cable can be seen pulling the car along, and then, for a split second, an assistant unties it. The car just wouldn’t drive. This scene would be a little more real if the Volga did not leave backwards, but in front. Indeed, when ascending, the lower axle is subjected to a greater load, and when it leads the way, it has more grip. Therefore, a rear-wheel drive car will more easily overcome the slope in forward gear, and a front-wheel drive car in reverse.
