In general, women are less likely than male car owners to get into an accident, according to statistics from the company Rosgosstrakh, whose specialists analyzed the reasons for applying for motorists’ comprehensive insurance before 2022.

However, women pay less attention to people moving on and near the roads, the same study found. Pedestrian collisions are the only cause of insurance cases where they are ahead of men.

In total, less than a third of insured event applications for hull insurance came in from motorists last year. The most common reasons for referrals were:

  • collision of two or more vehicles (32.5%)
  • glass damage to a car (23.5%)
  • hitting an obstacle (18.7%)
  • illegal actions by third parties (9.6%)
  • collision with an unknown vehicle (8%).

The statistics of the insurance company correspond to the all-Russian trend, although, according to the State Traffic Inspectorate, during 9 months of 2022, women were even 6 times less likely to be involved in accidents – out of 66.5 thousand recorded accidents, only 11.9 thousand “female”. However, it should be borne in mind that there are still more male drivers than motorists.

Analysts note that the low accident rate for women is explained by the fact that a large proportion of women who drive are mothers. They take their children to clubs and schools, they drive carefully and are not prone to recklessness. That is why the consequences of traffic accidents at the hands of women are, on average, not so great.
