Izvestia: Russia will test retrofitting of used cars in electric cars

In Russia, the Kaliningrad Avtotor plant will test technology for replacing the internal combustion engine (ICE) in automobiles with an electric motor. In this respect report “Izvestia”, referring to Vladimir Shcherbakov, the founder of the holding.

“We have offered the government to produce 150,000 electric motors for the entire industry and it supports us. Of course, there will not be such a need for new electric vehicles yet, so we will produce electric kits for vehicles already in operation to replace the old internal combustion engine with a new electric one along with the transmission.”

According to the top executive, the first cars converted to electric cars will appear in the spring of 2023. It is planned that they will be several cars from the fleet of the Avtotor plant. There will be mostly Korean models. The cost of converting a car with an internal combustion engine to an electric one will be about 80 thousand rubles.
