From 1 March, the concept of “means for individual mobility” will be introduced in the SDA. That is, legally, electric scooters become a vehicle, and the one who drives it is now the driver. And that will make a big difference.

As automotive expert Petr Shkumatov pointed out, electric scooter drivers now have to pass an alcohol test just like regular drivers. If the test is positive and the driver has a driver’s license, it will be revoked. If there is no driver’s license, the fine is 30 thousand rubles.

Scooters were no longer allowed to drive on the highway, but it will become very real to see a “scooter” in the stream on an ordinary road. True, there is a limitation – they can only drive on the right side or on the side of the road if the driver is over 14 years old. But bike lanes and sidewalks are now a legal place for scooters weighing less than 35 kg.

Electric scooters are allowed to move on the roadway, sidewalks and bicycle paths at a maximum speed of 25 km/h.

“Motorists must give way to drivers of electric scooters. Changes have been made in many points, it is easier to remember the general rule: scooters must give way everywhere,” Shkumatov summarized.

  • “Driving” can be seen on YouTube.
