Last year, Volkswagen stopped producing and selling new cars in Russia. However, cars are still coming to our country from VW factories in China – according to the parallel import scheme.
Business circles in Wolfsburg note that there are “established trade routes from China to Russia,” especially for used cars.
The German automaker decided to avoid this, although it can only do this with regard to new cars, since it is impossible to influence the used car market – they no longer belong to the company.

However, Volkswagen in China is relatively autonomous: the country has a principle that foreign automakers can only operate as part of a joint venture with state-owned Chinese automakers.
VW has instructed its own dealers not to allow exports to other countries. To date, Volkswagen China produces cars only for the Chinese market.
However, Volkswagen has no direct influence over the independent Chinese dealers in the shadow market that can secure the export of new cars.
That is why VW has drawn up a so-called “black list”, which lists well-known Chinese car exporters. Such dealers may have tried to export the machines to other countries in the past. As devised by Volkswagen, these companies will not take delivery of the group’s cars.
