It is interesting that for 1962 the very high-quality film was released not in a large film studio, but in the GAZ film studio, literally within the walls of the factory.
The film tells about the state tests of trucks GAZ-52, GAZ-53 and ZIL-130, which took place from January to November 1961. New models from the Gorky and Moscow plants were prepared to replace the excellent, but already quite outdated GAZ-51 and ZIL-164.
The video looks like an adventure movie, but still testing cars was a great event in those years. Drivers really did not know what exactly awaited them on the route – except in general terms.
The first leg included a run along the Moscow-Orenburg-Tashkent-Moscow route, the second – along the Moscow-Gorky and Moscow-Minsk routes. In total, the cars traveled 40 thousand kilometers, and now it is clear why those GAZs and ZILs turned out to be so reliable.
- And our trucks gave a start to the automotive industry of other countries – for example, this ZIL was produced at the FAW plant.
- “Behind the wheel” can be read in Odnoklassniki.
