Zoox, a division of the online retailer Amazon, announces the start of public road tests with driverless vehicles. Zoox robot taxis began transporting company employees in California in shuttle mode – from home to work and back.
According to Zoox, this is the first time that a vehicle has transported passengers on public roads without human supervision. The car has no steering wheel and pedals and can accommodate four people.
Zoox robot taxis can travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h. The car is equipped with a fully electric motor, one battery charge is sufficient for 16 hours of driving.
The timing of the commercial launch of Amazon’s driverless taxi has not yet been disclosed.
