Car won’t start? 5 pure winter reasons

Several reasons for possible malfunctions were mentioned by the expert “Behind the wheel” Mikhail Kolodochkin.

Fuel has decided to be whimsical

Something liquid is frozen. It can be drops of water in the gas pipe, and summer diesel fuel sold to you under the guise of winter (in the fuel tank, in the filter – it doesn’t matter).

An effective method of treatment is evacuation to a warm room. No anti-gels and other auto chemicals will help. These are only means of prevention, but not as a treatment.

Engine oil thickens in the cold

So much so that the starter cannot turn the crankshaft. The remedy is the same as in the previous paragraph. It was necessary to top up the oil in time according to the season, and now you need to somehow get to a warm garage, and drain all the 10W oil there (or what kind did you have there?) And fill 0W in (or at least 5W). Or wait for a thaw, if you’re not in a hurry.

Faulty glow plugs

This is especially the case in a diesel car. Many people deliberately heat the candles in several steps before giving the starter the command “Start”. In a word, it is necessary to change them without hesitation, and at once – it will not be worse.

Empty battery

Treatment: charge, “light up” from another car, use the launcher – decide based on the situation and the actual condition of the battery. Or maybe it’s just time to replace it?

Clogged exhaust pipe

This may be due to purely winter conditions: for example, we reversed into a snowdrift. It is clear that the pipe, like the exhaust, must be “given freedom”.

There are also demi-season reasons, which are described in detail here.
