In the Museum of GK Zhukov, a branch of the Victory Museum in the Kaluga region, the Cold Star exhibition opened.
The temporary exhibition coincides with anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov being awarded the rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad.
“Today it is already difficult to imagine the name of the legendary commander of the Great Patriotic War without the rank of marshal, which he received for the first time during the war – on January 23, 1943. On the same days, the final stage of the Battle of Stalingrad underway – there were still about two weeks before the complete surrender of the 6th Army of Paulus and other Nazi formations in Stalingrad. Georgy Konstantinovich took an active part in the development of the plan for Operation Uranus to encircle the enemy group, ”said the head of the GK Zhukov” Natalya Shmakova.
The exhibition presents the marshal’s personal belongings, archive photos of the war years, documents revealing Zhukov’s contribution to the defeat of the enemy at Stalingrad.
There are also Zhukov’s shoulder straps, presented by his great-granddaughter Varvara Erokhina, and a letter from the Supreme Soviet of the USSR granting him the title of Marshal of the Soviet Union. The exhibition will run until February 28.
