Analytical Center NAFI and the National Association of Automobile and Motorcycle Tourism and Caravanning presented the results of a new study. Research has been done into the demand for motorhomes and caravans, provided an affordable price.
“Among Russians who travel by car, the potential demand for motorhomes and caravans is quite high. If their price were affordable, 77% of car travelers would be willing to buy the first, and 61% would buy the second. The demand for their rentals is no less great,” Leysan Baimuratova, research director in the field of digital economics at the NAFI Analytical Center, said at a press conference at the press center of Za Rulem magazine.

Motorhome or caravan?
Naithere is more demand for motorhomes and caravans among young people aged 25 to 34 (88%) and families of four or more (84%).
At the same time, the portrait of potential buyers of motorhomes and caravans is the same: they are people aged 25 to 44 with family and children. And this makes sense, because the camper and the caravan provide the same amenities (toilet, shower, stove, refrigerator, heating, air conditioning, bed), but in the first case they are in a van, in the second – in a trailer .
As part of the study, 1600 people were interviewed. The sample is based on Rosstat statistics and represents the population of the Russian Federation by gender, age, level of education and type of establishment. Data error – no more than 3.1%.
Traveling by car is one of the most popular forms of tourism among Russians. In the summer of 2022, 67% of the inhabitants of our country traveled by car, of which 12% for the first time.
NAFI reports that the price of a camper ranges from 700 thousand to 30 million rubles, depending on the modification, configuration and year of manufacture. You can rent a motorhome for 7-25 thousand rubles per day. A caravan can be bought by spending from 350 thousand to 4 million rubles. Rent will cost 2-10 thousand rubles per day.
Some Russians think motorhomes are unaffordable, but Maxim Migunov, the head of the Russian representative office of European motorhome rental company Touringcars, noted that the price for one night in the purchased motorhome is comparable to a hotel stay or hotel stay.
But there is a more affordable option – the trailer “Licorice”. Rental costs are 1.5-8 thousand rubles per day, purchases – from 600 thousand to 2.5 million rubles. The association recommends manufacturers such as “Lower” in Nizhny Novgorod and “Freedom” in Saint Petersburg”.
Russians are increasingly interested in motor tourism, the Association noted.
“More than half of the hotels and motels provide parking spaces for caravans, access to electricity, sanitary facilities, showers,” says Maxim Migunov, head of the Russian representative office of the European caravan rental company Touringcars.

The aim of the competition is to formulate the principles and rules of conduct for traveling by car and motorcycle, taking into account compliance with cultural, religious and ethical norms, respect for society and respect for nature. Everyone needs it: the tourism industry as a whole, car travelers and the motorcycle community.

Students from Russian universities were eager to participate in the competition. For them the nomination “The best student project” is provided. Design codes from tourism industry representatives, car travelers, motorcycle communities will be considered in the “Tourist Community” nomination. The authors of the best works and participants receive diplomas and prizes.
Every driver is a car tourist
Alexey Nesterenko, vice-chairman of the Driving Schools of Russia Guild, plans to introduce students of driving schools to the autotourist code.
“There are 35,909 driving schools in Russia, of which 1.5 million drivers graduate every year. Almost every one of them is a future car tourist, this is a help to the development of patriotism, unity of citizens and the moral education of young people.”
The start of accepting applications for the All-Russian league is February 20, 2023, the end is June 1. The jury intends to complete the evaluation of the submitted works in mid-September.
