Facial recognition (which works successfully in the Moscow metro) has found an unexpected application in the car.
The digital panel from Continental and Trinamix identifies the driver and secures the vehicle against theft. The car just refuses to start.
The invention is based on biometric recognition of the driver’s face. Oddly enough, the new feature can also be used to make digital payments. This can also be done via the car display. For example, a person can park, pay for fuel or make a purchase in the shopping application.
Interestingly, the system recognizes human skin, preventing fraudulent use of photos or realistic 3D masks of the rightful owner of the car, for example.

In addition, the system’s built-in camera is used to reliably monitor driver attention and warn of fatigued driving. The camera is integrated in the display and is invisible to the driver.
The new solution won the Innovation Award in the Automotive Technology & Advanced Mobility category at CES 2023.
