Driving expert Sergei Kanunnikov As part of the retro test of the LiAZ-677 bus, I remembered many interesting features of this car, which we all know from childhood. And one of those features – perhaps the most recognizable to us as passengers – is the smoothness of the ride.
No bus of those years had such softness, and even now it cannot be found … The thing is that air springs were used in the LiAZ-677 suspension – in the repair and operating instructions they were called air springs.

The same solution was used with the American Greyhound, but was not very common even in the United States. And here LiAZs traveled through all the cities, and their ride was so soft that the car swayed like a ship on the soft waves of asphalt, swaying almost to one side when cornering. But it was this “ship” feature that left no blow to the bus interior, regardless of the pothole under the steering wheel.
