Members of the European Parliament supported the Council of Europe initiative, which meant banning the sale of new fossil fuel vehicles in the EU after 2035. In this respect informs TASS with a link to the European Parliament website.
It is noted that by 2030, automobile manufacturers will have to reduce the emission level of new passenger vehicle models by 55% and for light commercial vehicles by 50%. In addition, from 2025 to 2029, it is planned to increase the share of low-emission automobiles in total sales to 25% in passenger cars and 17% in light commercial vehicles. By 2035, the carbon emission reduction target for new cars should be 100%.
Therefore, by 2035, European automakers will have to completely stop production of conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and switch to electric vehicle production.
The ICE vehicle ban is part of the European Commission’s plan to achieve a climate-neutral economy by 2050.
