BMW chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk does not see the pick-up segment as a good fit for the brand.
Joining any class is seriously worth it in the long run, but right now there’s no guarantee there will be a demand for premium-segment pickups. Moreover, not so long ago there was an example of the failure of the Mercedes-Benz X-class.
Instead, BMW will be pushing the big XM crossover this year.
At the same time, the designer sees changes in pick-ups towards luxury and a higher price. That is, the opinion of Adrian van Hooydonk should not be taken as a categorical refusal, and in the future the segment may well be recognized as promising for the Bavarian brand.
Meanwhile, the experiments continue periodically. Recall that in 2019 the concept of a BMW pickup based on the X7 model was created.
