On Friday evening and next weekend, February 11-12, traffic inspectors will conduct raids in parts of Russia, announced representatives of the traffic police.

Mass events were announced to detect drunk drivers in the Ivanovo region, the Ryazan region, the Samara region, the Kemerovo region, the Belgorod region, the Vologda region, the Lipetsk region, the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Tver region and others. Also, traffic inspectors from Syktyvkar, Smolensk, Petrozavodsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kirov and Pskov spoke about the upcoming raids.

In addition, Mari El Republic will host events aimed at preventing accidents caused by pedestrians. “Oncoming lane” will be raided in the Irkutsk region, and the traffic police in the Rostov region from February 10-19 promised to strengthen control on the roads.

For driving while intoxicated, the driver faces a fine of 30 thousand rubles and deprivation of rights for one and a half to two years. The driver’s refusal to take the test will also result in deprivation of certification and a fine. The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded that if a drunk driver is detained for the second time or repeatedly refuses a medical examination, he will be subject to criminal punishment in accordance with article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Patrol inspectors of the capital’s State traffic inspectorate use the tactic of artificially narrowing road lanes to launch massive raids. Such a change in the organization of traffic causes traffic jams, experts warn, but it is effective in catching citizens who use alcohol and drugs while driving.
