Gang of tech-savvy hijackers arrested in the capital

While committing another theft, the police arrested bandits involved in the theft of foreign cars from Muscovites.

The organized crime group consisted of three citizens, residents of the Stavropol, Irkutsk and Sverdlovsk regions. The hijackers got into the cars using special devices to hack, start engines and suppress GPS signals. The hijackers had a rich arsenal of special equipment to commit crimes.

Searches of a private home found two stolen foreign cars, as well as cars used by the criminals to carry out their activities.

In addition to special hacking equipment, police seized several fake state license plates and five mobile phones from the attackers.

Those arrested were responsible for at least six thefts of foreign cars in Moscow, and experts estimated damage to car owners at about 7.5 million rubles.

Criminal cases were initiated on the basis of crimes provided for in Parts 3 and 4 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
