The creator of the UAZ “bread” UAZ-450 died

On February 7, in Ulyanovsk Yegor Romanovich Varchenko, an engineer who was at the root of the creation of the first independent model of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, the UAZ-450, died in Ulyanovsk. It is known that young Varchenko was captured by the Germans during the Great Patriotic War and almost miraculously survived. In 1955, he graduated from the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute with honors and was assigned to Ulyanovsk, to the UAZ.

Here he joined the development team of the UAZ-450, the predecessor of the current “bread”, produced from 1958 to 1965. Well, the modernized all-wheel drive UAZ-452 in the form of a whole UAZ SGR family is being built after a series of upgrades still produced to this day, in January 2023, celebrating its 65th anniversary on the assembly line.

Yegor Romanovich worked at UAZ for 47 years and retired in the nineties. One way or another, his whole life was connected with the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. He was 96 years old.
