“Kommersant”: AFK “Sistema” can buy a Volkswagen car factory in Kaluga

Russian investment company AFK Sistema has started negotiations to buy the factory of German automobile concern Volkswagen in Kaluga. In this respect informs Kommersant citing its own sources of information.

It was noted that in the event of the acquisition of the Russian Volkswagen factory, the company plans to establish a machinery manufacturing holding.

AFK Sistema plans to include Kazakh automaker Allur in the project. AllurGroup includes the production facilities of Agromashholding and SaryarkaAvtoProm, as well as the AllurAuto dealer and distribution network. The main owners of the company are Chinese shareholders. Another source said players from the Middle East and China are also interested in the deal.

The companies plan to continue to produce the same cars produced here at the factory in Kaluga until March 2022. The enterprise in the Kaluga technopark Grabtsevo has been producing cars since 2009. It is owned by the German company Volkswagen. The maximum capacity of the enterprise is 225 thousand vehicles per year. Production of Volkswagen and Skoda cars, as well as 1.6 gasoline engines, began on the territory of the factory. About 5,000 workers worked at the factory.
